Revenue climbed 37% year over year to $1.67 billion, adjusted earnings per share more than tripled to $2.11, and the company's order backlog swelled to $8.5 billion. Behind those numbers sits a company management says is still in the early innings of a multiyear buildout tied to artificial intelligence, one big enough that Ciena now expects its addressable market to roughly double by 2029. That pace has the company projecting more than $10 billion in backlog by the end of fiscal 2026, with visibility stretching into fiscal 2028. A book-to-bill ratio well above one means Ciena is taking in more orders than it can currently ship, a bottleneck driven almost entirely by hyperscale customers building out AI infrastructure. The demand is showing up across the business. Optical networking revenue rose 46% to $1.19 billion, cloud provider revenue grew more than 80%, and interconnects revenue more than doubled. Ciena's reconfigurable line systems, which hold roughly a 70% share in the disaggregated line system market, are increasingly being used to link data centers together for distributed AI training, a use case executives are calling scale across. The next generation of that platform, Hyper-Rail, is expected to reach several hundred million dollars in revenue during fiscal 2027. Meanwhile, shipments of WaveLogic 5 Nano pluggable optics doubled quarter over quarter. Profitability is scaling alongside volume: adjusted gross margin reached 46.4% and adjusted operating margin hit 22.5%, both records, and management is guiding to an operating margin as high as 27% for fiscal 2027 on revenue of at least $8.3 billion. The Costs Of Chasing Demand Meeting that demand is not free. Ciena signed long-term component agreements through 2029 to lock in supply, and executives said cash from operations is expected to decline in the fourth quarter as the company disperses funds to support those agreements. Inventory levels have already risen to keep pace with orders, and cash conversion slipped from the prior quarter even though the year-over-year trend remains positive. Customer concentration is another factor to watch. Two customers each accounted for more than 10% of revenue, together making up 41.7% of the total, meaning a slowdown at either could ripple through results quickly. Tariffs add a smaller but real drag, with the new Canadian tariff regime flagged as a potential $10 million-a-quarter headwind.
