The 30-year fixed mortgage and the housing stocks The rate on the 30-year fixed mortgage went above 7% on Thursday. As you might expect, the housing stocks didn't react so well. Toll Brothers fell 1.9%. The stock is off 21% from the February high. PulteGroup dropped 2%. Shares are down 19% from the February high. Hovnanian was down 2.6%. The stock is off 30% from the high it reached nearly a year ago. HOV YTD mountain Hovanian shares in 2026 Energy We'll watch oil closely starting at 5 a.m. ET with " Morning Call " and Morgan Brennan. Brent and West Texas Intermediate crude are both up about 12% so far this week. Energy is the only S & P sector in positive territory so far this week. It is up 1.7%. Devon Energy and Valero are leading the way. Both are up around 4% so far this week. Oracle The tech giant beat earnings estimates on Thursday afternoon. Shares rose 4% in extended trading, but at one point they were as high as 7%. Oracle is down 56% from the high reached a year ago. ORCL 1D mountain Oracle in the past day Inflation data The consumer price index comes out live on "Squawk Box" Friday at 8:30 a.m. Becky Quick, Joe Kernen and Andrew Ross Sorkin of "Squawk Box" will have the numbers and instant stock reaction. The Dow Jones consensus sees a 0.4% on a month-to-month basis. The expected annual inflation rate is 3.4%, per Dow Jones. Sixty percent of the people playing the month-to-month market on prediction market Kalshi believe the monthly number will be above 0.3%. Meanwhile, 12% see the number going higher than the expected 0.4%. Kroger The grocery giant, with about 2,700 stores across the country, reports Friday morning around 7:30 a.m. Shares are down more than 11% in three months. The stock is off 25% from the March high.
