U.S. and Korean tech stocks are now tightly linked — and that could be a worry for investors

Image
Wall Street tech moves and South Korea's stock market are becoming increasingly intertwined as artificial intelligence spending binds together the fortunes of U.S. technology giants and Korean memory chipmakers. The 60-day correlation between the Kospi and Nasdaq 100 recently climbed to about 0.50, its highest level since 2021, according to data provided by Rayliant. The growing relationship reflects the increasing dominance of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, which together account for more than half of the Kospi index. Both companies sit at the center of the AI hardware supply chain, providing the memory chips needed for data centres operated by U.S. technology giants. "The correlation has increased because the KOSPI has become a semiconductor index," Rolf Bulk, analyst at Futurum Group, told CNBC via email. Samsung and SK Hynix increasingly depend on the same hyperscaler spending that drives earnings at U.S. semiconductor and technology companies. Data-center demand ...

In a Saturday application with the Federal Communications Commission, Amazon said its D2D network would combine its existing infrastructure with Globalstar's satellites and spectrum. Amazon is targeting users who are "unserved or underserved" by existing wireless providers, the filing states. Other applications include supporting emergency operations like search and rescue, and extending connectivity for worksites, fleets and supply chains that are remote or harder for terrestrial networks to rea...

Lindsey Graham at his funeral service Tuesday. At Trump 's invitation, Netanyahu flew to Washington on Monday for the service, his office announced. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also plans to attend the Washington funeral, MS NOW reported, citing a White House official. Semiconductor stock charts just formed this bearish shape that signals more potential losses Brian Sozzi Executive Editor Mon, July 27, 2026 at 7:54 AM PDT 2 min read SMH NVDA TSM AVGO The bears may not be going anywhere on semiconductor stocks. Quick insight: The VanEck Semiconductor ETF ( SMH ) which counts Nvidia ( NVDA ), Taiwan Semiconductor ( TSM ), and Broadcom ( AVGO ) as its top three holdings has begun to form a head-and-shoulders stock pattern, according to Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace chart analysis (below). The left shoulder took shape starting in mid-May, with the head forming in late June, and now the right shoulder has emerged. The pattern will be official if the ETF falls below the May 19 closing low of $543. The head-and-shoulders pattern is widely considered bearish, as it suggests that buyers are gradually losing control of the market for a particular stock or ETF. During the formation of the left shoulder and head, buyers can still push prices to new highs. But the in...

Nvidia, SpaceX, Microsoft launch AI safety initiative as OpenAI cyber attack fallout continues

Image
Nvidia and a host of tech giants on Monday launched a new AI safety initiative focused on open models, as the fallout from a cyber attack committed by a rogue OpenAI model continues. Last week, it emerged that the target of the attack, startup Hugging Face, was unable to use leading U.S. frontier models to defend itself, with guardrails not distinguishing between aggressor and defender. Instead, it turned to a self-hosted, open weight Chinese model, which was not bound by those same restrictions. In the wake of U.S. lawmakers increasingly weighing how to curb growing adoption of Chinese AI models, the most advanced of which are open weight, tech giants have launched an initiative aimed at building and sharing open AI tools. Open models can be downloaded, modified and self-hosted, in contrast to closed models including frontier systems built by Anthropic and OpenAI which can only be accessed through specific infrastructure. "The Open Secure AI Alliance will work to remediate and d...
