SpaceX seeing some interest from short sellers, but many still afraid to bet against Musk

Image
SpaceX 's sharp pullback from its post-IPO record high is doing little to embolden short sellers reluctant to bet against CEO Elon Musk, even as shares have shed more than a quarter of their value in just over a week. The rocket company is down about 12% this week and roughly 28% from its June 16 peak, erasing hundreds of billions of dollars in market value after a blistering rally that followed the June 12 initial public offering. Yet bearish bets remain in check. Only about 40 million SpaceX shares are currently sold short, representing roughly 5% to 7% of the company's publicly tradable float of roughly 625 million shares, according to an estimate by S3 Partners. SpaceX About 60 companies in the S&P 500 currently have short interest exceeding 7% of their float, according to FactSet, suggesting bearish positioning in SpaceX remains relatively modest despite the stock's recent slide. More than 30 million SpaceX shares are currently available to borrow, indicating ampl...

(ADYEY) gave investors a fresh reason to pay attention after it unveiled Adyen Agentic, a suite of modular APIs built to help merchants sell through conversational AI platforms without rebuilding their commerce systems. Shares jumped 4.11% on Monday after the news and the move made sense because the release pushes Adyen deeper into the next phase of digital commerce, not just plain old payments. That matters because Adyen is not trying to be just a payment processor. It wants to sit closer to the whole transaction, from discovery to checkout to money movement, and that is exactly where the company is spending time and money in 2026. Who is Andy Burnham? And 4 other things investors should know as the UK replaces its prime minister

Image
U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Monday he'd step down , opening the door for Britain's seventh leader in 10 years. The process to succeed him as Labour Party leader and prime minister will see a successor take the helm by September 1 at the latest, and with a new administration comes a new set of economic and fiscal policies for markets to digest. Here is what investors should know while the U.K. searches for its next leader. Andy Burnham is the favorite to succeed Starmer. The mayor of Greater Manchester won a seat in Britain's parliament in a special election last week, making him eligible for the leadership. On Monday morning, former health secretary Wes Streeting, who had been a potential rival for the premiership, endorsed Burnham, boosting the chances that he will run unopposed, which would significantly shorten the process. Burnham left parliament in 2017 to become Manchester mayor, after serving in previous Labour governments and challenging for the pa...

Alan Greenspan, former chairman of the Fed, dies at age 100

Image
Alan Greenspan, the longtime Federal Reserve chairman known as "the Maestro" who became one of the most influential economic policymakers of his era and famously warned of "irrational exuberance," has died. He was 100. The influential economist died Monday at his home from complications of Parkinson's Disease, said his wife of 29 years, Andrea Mitchell, the chief Washington correspondent and chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News . "He was a giant of a man who helped shape the U.S. economy for decades under presidents of both parties, but was always honest in acknowledging his mistakes," Mitchell said in a statement. Greenspan was appointed Fed chairman in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan and held the position through busts and booms until retiring in 2006. His tenure was the second longest, four months short of that of William McChesney Martin, who presided over the central bank from 1951 to 1970. The Fed in a statement Monday morning said i...

US data center electricity demand could more than double by 2030, rising from roughly 167 terawatt-hours in 2023 to about 376 TWh by the end of the decade, according to a Yahoo Finance analysis of government and industry data. More from Yahoo Scout Why is battery storage becoming critical for AI infrastructure? How much will US data center electricity demand increase by 2030? What planned utility-scale capacity additions show the storage buildout? How is the AI trade expanding beyond traditional tech sectors? That shift is turning power from a background cost into a frontline constraint and making batter...

China imposed fresh trade restrictions on dozens of U.S. entities on Monday, retaliating against Washington's move to add more Chinese companies to a Pentagon list of businesses it accuses of aiding Beijing's military. On Monday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce placed 10 American industrial suppliers on its export control list, including rare earth miners MP Materials Corp and USA Rare Earth , and drone makers Teal Drones and Jaia Robotics barring exports of any dual-use items originating in China to the companies. Other companies included on the list are California-headquartered electronics manufacturer Aveox Inc, Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp, and military equipment provider Oshkosh Defense. In a separate statement Monday, the Chinese Finance Ministry excluded 46 U.S. companies, mostly defense contractors, from participating in government procurement projects. Any foreign-funded, locally registered entities associated with the excluded firms are exempted. The actio...

U.S., Iran agree on roadmap for final deal and plan to end military operations in Lebanon

The U.S. and Iran made progress during talks in Switzerland on Monday toward reaching a final deal within 60 days, including the agreement to establish a committee and a mechanism to end hostilities in Lebanon. "The Lake Lucerne Summit was conducted in a positive and constructive atmosphere. Encouraging progress has been made, including the creation of a mechanism for further technical talks," according to a joint statement by mediating parties Qatar and Pakistan. Building on a memorandum of understanding signed last week, the parties agreed to establish a "High Level Committee" that will provide political oversight of the mediation. Chief negotiators will report regularly to the committee and lead working groups on nuclear, sanctions, and dispute resolution, according to the joint statement. The parties also agreed to establish a "de-confliction" cell between the U.S., Iran and Lebanon, facilitated by the mediating countries, to ensure full termination o...
