'Absolutely crazy': Here's what South Korean stock investors are doing in U.S. markets

A wave of South Korean investors is flocking to U.S. markets to avoid a correction at home, even as global investors pile in. Korean retail investors net sold domestic stocks for most of last week, even as the benchmark index entered bull market territory, according to Korea Exchange data. Overseas investors reversed course to become net buyers. Here are five things related to those investors: Of the $4.5 billion in U.S. stocks Korean investors net bought in July, around $840 million went into the chipmaker's U.S.-listed depositary receipts, according to Korea Securities Depository data. SK Hynix's ADRs were the second most net-purchased U.S. securities, even though Korean investors can buy the same company directly at home. Home Depot CEO Takes Medical Leave. What This Means for HD Stock Ahead of Earnings. Yiannis Zourmpanos Sun, August 16, 2026 at 8:30 AM PDT 4 min read HD Investors in Home Depot (HD) stock were greeted by a surprise on Tuesday when CEO Ted Decker said he was taking a brief medical leave that will last a few months. The timing comes only days before the home improvement behemoth releases fiscal second-quarter results on Aug. 18. But there is a key nuance here for investors. Decker has not resigned, and Home Depot has put in place two very experienced executives to split Decker's duties. Ann-Marie Campbell, senior executive vice president of U.S. stores and operations, will handle operations, while CFO Richard McPhail will handle finance and the company's Pro subsidiaries. For now, this looks more like a brief governance problem than a change to the underlying investment thesis on Home Depot. About Home Depot Stock Headquartered in Atlanta, Home Depot is the world's largest home improvement retailer, with 2,361 retail stores and 1,280+ SRS sites at the end of fiscal Q1. It caters to DIY customers as well as professional contractors, with the Pro division gaining increasing importance as a growth engine. Home Depot has a market cap of $342.4 billion. Home Depot stock is down 20% from its 52-week high of $426.75 and up 18.2% from its 52-week low of $289.10. This stock has lagged the overall market in recent times, and HD is particularly vulnerable to any signs that housing and renovations will soon become more affordable. www.barchart.com The valuation is also far from inexpensive, despite the underperformance. Home Depot stock is trading at approximately 23.62 times forward price-to-earnings and 2.15 times sales. Therefore, the stock is valued based on the size and profitability of the company as well as its potential exposure to future housing recovery, instead of a regular retailer facing declining demand. That makes earnings growth even more important for a sustained valuation improvement. Income is another factor. The forward annual dividend is $9.32, giving HD stock a dividend yield of approximately 2.7%. Home Depot Beats Fiscal Q1 Earnings Fiscal Q1 earnings showed a company managing to grow at a moderate pace, despite the continuing pressure on housing market. The revenue increased 4.8% year-over-year (YOY) to $41.8 billion, while comparable sales increased 0.6% and U.S. comparable sales grew 0.4%. Story Continues Adjusted earnings per share amounted to $3.43, slightly beating analysts' estimates, but declining from $3.56 last year. The revenue also beat expectations. This implies that Home Depot has managed well during the downturn, though the organic growth has yet...
